Foreign Affairs Minister of the People’s Republic of China Yan Jiechi: “For the last two years the Forum has organized various types of exchanges, discussions and bilateral events, conducted a comprehensive exchange of information and opinions, and offered various proposals. On May 19, 2008, the Third Meeting of the SCO Forum was held in Beijing. Nearly a hundred experts and scholars from the member and observer countries of the SCO, Afghanistan, as well as Chinese research institutes attended the meeting. Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi attended the meeting and delivered a speech, in which he made positive comments on the forum's efforts since its establishment two years ago in pushing for the development of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). Yang also expressed hope that the experts and scholars from all the countries can grasp the situation, enhance strategic surveys, dynamic study and broad exchanges and offer suggestions on the development of SCO.

Yang expressed thanks for the condolences and assistance in various forms offered by the SCO member and observer countries and Afghanistan over the Wenchuan earthquake. He expressed belief that with the strong leadership of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, untied strength of all Chinese people and firm support of the international community, China will surely further unite to conquer the disaster and rebuild homeland.
